The Muraabit, also known as the Al-Murabitun or the Almohads, were a Berber dynasty that emerged around the 11th century in North Africa. They were known for their strict monastic and ascetic lifestyle, as well as their military prowess. The Muraabit established a complex network of fortified monasteries and military settlements, known as ribats, which served as centers of learning, worship, and defense against the Christian invaders. Their influence spread beyond North Africa into the Iberian Peninsula, where they ruled from Seville to Granada. The Muraabit are remembered today for their contributions to literature, art, and architecture, as well as their significant impact on the political and military landscape of the Mediterranean world.
