The term "Amazigh" is an ethnic self-designation that refers to the Berber people of the Maghreb region in North Africa. Historically, the Amazigh people have maintained their distinct cultural identity, despite facing significant pressures from dominant Arab and Islamic cultures. The Amazigh language, which is considered a branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family, has survived despite efforts to suppress it during periods of Arab and Islamic rule. Today, the Amazigh people continue to celebrate their unique traditions, including music, dance, and festivals, which reflect their pre-Islamic Berber heritage.
