Vishvamitra

A wise and learned sage

Vishvamitra is an ancient sage and a great Rishi (seer or listener) in Hindu mythology, revered for his immense wisdom and knowledge of chants or mantras, which have the power to evoke the gods and manage the elements of nature. He is known for composing the famous 'Atharva Veda' – the last and most mystical of the four Vedas. Vishvamitra has also played an instrumental role in both the Ramayana and Mahabharata epics. In the Ramayana, he was the guru (teacher) of King Dasharatha and arranged for his sons to marry Rama, Lakshmana, and Bharata. In the Mahabharata, he incarnated as Vyasa's charioteer and teacher and implemented the strategy for the Kurukshetra war between the Pandavas and Kauravas.
